Where the reputation holds up

Miele reliability by appliance type

Miele asks for more money upfront and makes its case around longer ownership. Current service evidence supports dishwashers and compact laundry, although the authorised repair map can matter as much as the engineering.

A premium machine waiting three weeks for service is still broken for three weeks. The price tag cannot shorten the road between technician and house.

What was actually measured

The evidence behind the Miele reputation

Yale Appliance reported a 7.4 percent overall Miele first-year service rate for 2026. Its dishwasher figure was 5.5 percent, close to one call for every eighteen units sold in that regional sample.

The same source found recent Miele heat-pump dryers more dependable than earlier generations. That gives current buyers useful direction without promising the result at year ten.

What happens when a technician is needed

Authorised coverage is strong in some cities and sparse elsewhere. Ask about the first available appointment, then locate the nearest parts source before paying the premium.

A good fit when

  • Buyers planning to keep the machine for a long time.
  • Compact-laundry homes with nearby authorised service.

Think twice when

  • The lowest possible repair bill matters more than premium build.
  • Authorised coverage is weak in the area.

A company average is a rough first filter. Each page below fixes the appliance type, then looks at the public evidence and the repair trade that matters most.

Different studies answer different questions

Early service cannot promise year ten.

Dealer service rates describe repair demand during the first year in one market. Satisfaction studies capture recent ownership. We use both as signals and refuse to quietly turn either one into a survival table.

Research reviewed July 2026. The editorial rating reflects public evidence, service access and category consistency. It is not a measured failure rate.
